Cat Breeding : Adulthood

In general, cat lovers want cat breeding process goes well. It begins with the process of selecting parent stocks, mating process, and giving birth of their beloved cats. Cat lovers want the processes running smoothly and normally. Therefore it must be noted that care should be taken for the pregnant cat and also in the process of birth delivery. Some notes below may help cat lovers in handling their beloved cats breeding.

Persian cats reach their adulthood at the age of 10-14 months. In this age the current condition of the reproductive organs are mature, but according to some researchers and cat organisations standard, marriage age for cats should be after the age of 14 months. Female cats at that age are mentally and physically strong to experience pregnancy, childbirth, breastfeeding and caring for their children as well.

Before mating the cats, parent candidates' health must be in good condition. It is necessary for the breeders to prepare for vaccination, de-worming, and make sure that cats skin condition is good with no disease (scabies, lice, etc.), Parent cats are needed to be given nutritious food and vitamins to maintain their health.  And do not forget to cut the nails of the two cats to avoid being injured when mating. During the pregnancy, it should be noted to avoid giving drugs other than vitamins in cats.

How to choose the appropriate cats for my needs?

Before deciding to look for what cat quality you would like to buy, should you answer the following questions:
1. How much is your funding or budget to purchase the cats?
2. What is the purpose of your purchasing cats.
These are questions I often ask to prospective buyers who contact me or ask for price. Some may feel offense, while some are able to accept my questions well.
By knowing the budget to be used and its purpose, I will be able to steer prospective buyers about stock availability, and whether the quality of cat is right for that person.

In general the quality of cat can be classified into 4 categories as follows :
1. Top Show Quality
2. Show Quality
3. Breed Quality
4. Pet Quality

By knowing your purpose, your criteria of cat quality and your budget, then you will understand which cat you would like to choose.

Exotic Short Hair Persian

This kind of Short Hair or Exotic cats have the same standards and characters with Persian cats. Its difference is only in the length of their hair.

When firstly introduced in Indonesia, many cat lovers are hesitant to keep it, because they see this cat has hair the same length as the village cats. But with the passage of time and the difficulty of treating the cats , Exotic Shorthair Persian cat race is starting to be accepted, and even the popularity of the cats is increasing sharply. This race is the second most popular race in Indonesia.

If you like the short-nosed cats, but lazy to take care of her hair, Exotic Short Hair cat is an alternative, because more than 40 races in the world only Persian and Exotic cats are short-nosed.

Persian Cats Standards

Many cats organizations have their own standards. Commonly persian cats are standardized in their heads, body model, hair, proportion, care handling, coat color, and eyes color.

Head

Head size is big, strong and round with full cheek and chin. It is well located, describing having a good bite, thick-necked, broad and strong jaw. When caressed, forehead is flat and smooth with no lumps. Eyes are round, shining brightly and large, giving a sweet expression to the face. It has round face, small ears, rounded edges, slightly tilted forward and not too open, providing the right blend in the head. Nose is short with the curve lies between the two eyes parallel, when viewed from the side mouth and forehead are parallel.

Body Model

Box-shaped bodies (see picture above), short-legged, thick and strong. The hind legs look straight when  seen from behind. Body weight is about 4-5 kg for males, 3-4 kg for females. Muscle and Bone looks sturdy and strong. It has short tails proportional to the length of the body (when measured not exceed 3/4 of the size of the body). Its quality is more decisive than the size, so if you want to find cat with big body, then choose large-body races like the Mainecoon race.

Persian Cats, The Most Popular Cats

From more than 40 cat breeds that exist in the world, Persian cats are the most popular cat race and many people love them. One common reason why this persian cat race is more favorable is because of their thick hair, smooth character and not very active. They are loved not only by women but also by men. Mostly their fans love beauty, especially women or men who like women's job like hair care, fashion and more.

Persian cat will look beautiful if you are committed and have time to care for and clean, otherwise this cat would be a gross furry monster. Before you decide to keep this race, preferably in mind whether you are able and have the time and commitment to care for these gorgeous cats every day, If not you should find easier to have cats like common short hair and with long nose structure cats.
